Abstract
Održavanje broda jedan je od najvažnijih aspekata u životnom vijeku broda. Ono predstavlja velike troškove za brodara, posebno u suvremenim trendovima poslovanja. Pod pojmom održavanja broda podrazumijeva se sprečavanje kvarova na sustavima broda, otklanjanje nastalih kvarova te produženje životnog vijeka broda i njegovih sustava. Cilj ovog rada je prikaz utjecaja zaštitnih premaza na trupu broda u smislu osnovne zaštite trupa od korozije i obraštanja. Starost broda, veličina i područje njegove plovidbe su samo neki od aspekata koji utječu na odabir odgovarajućeg sustava zaštitnih premaza. Zaštita brodskog trupa premazima može se vršiti tijekom pomorsko plovidbenog procesa, ali najučinkovitije je u remontnim brodogradilištima. Obraštanje označuje nastanak životinjskih i biljnih morskih organizama na uronjenim površinama broda koji izazivaju ozbiljne probleme. Kroz povijest su se razvile mnoge metode zaštite od obraštanja, a danas su u uporabi premazi koji su sve kvalitetnija i okolišu prihvatljivija rješenja. U tehnologiji nanošenja zaštitnih premaza jednako su bitni priprema površine, uvjeti okoliša i pravilno nanošenje kvalitetnog premaza.

Hull maintenance is one of the most important aspect in ships lifetime. It represents big cost for ship owner, especially in modern bussiness trends. Ship maintenance represents prevention of ship system failures, dealing with them and extending ships lifetime. Purpose of this paper is showing the influence of protective coatings in protection of the ships hull against corrosion and fouling. Ships age, size and navigation area all influence in choosing the right protective coating system. Hull protective coating can be applied either during navigation or during ship repair works in shipyard. Fouling is the settlement of animal and plant marine organism on the ships underwater surfaces. Throughout history there were numerous methods of fouling protection, but modern coating are more and more quality and eco-friendly. Surface preparation, environmental conditions and correct application of quality coating are equaly important in antifouling technology.
