Abstract
Pogonski sustav zrakoplova osigurava jednu od 4 fundamentalne sile koje djeluju na zrakoplov u horizontalnom letu. Stvara potisak, odnosno vučnu silu koja se suprotstavlja sili otpora prilikom ubrzavanja, penjanja i horizontalnog leta zrakoplova. Cilj je imati pogonski sustav koji će biti efikasan, odnosno kojim će se put do destinacije ostvariti u što kraćem vremenskom intervalu uz male troškove. Također je bitno da pritom ne šteti atmosferi, ljudima i ostalom životu na Zemlji. Iz tog razloga se uz klipne pogonske sustave paralelno razvijaju i ostala rješenja. Jedno od mogućih rješenja su električni motori, koji već imaju svoju ulogu u nekim zrakoplovnim prototipovima, a neki čak i u zrakoplovima sa serijskom proizvodnjom. Pokazali su se kao sustavi visokog potencijala, jer imaju veliku iskoristivost, mogu razviti velike snage i pritom ne ispuštaju štetne emisije. U ovom radu uspoređuje se konstrukcija i način rada klipnih i električnih motora, analiziraju se njihove performanse, iskoristivost, utjecaj na okoliš te program održavanja.

Propulsion system of an aircraft provides one of the 4 fundamental forces that act on an aircraft in horizontal flight. It provides thrust, which counteracts drag during acceleration, climb and horizontal flight of an aircraft. The objective is to have a propulsion system which will be efficient, and which will be able to make the destination time short, with little expenses. It is also important that while doing this, it does not cause harm to atmosphere, people and other life on Earth. Because of this, alternative propulsion systems are being developed alongside piston engines. One of the possible solutions are electrical engines, which are already being used in some aircraft prototypes, while some even have serial production. They proved to be of high potential, because of their high efficiency, high power and zero harmful emissions.This paper compares construction and operating principles of piston and electrical engines, analyses their performance, efficiency, environmental impact and maintenance programs.
