Napretkom tehnologije dolazi do konstantnog rasta i poboljšanja performansi mobilnih uređaja, a samim time porasta usluga temeljenih na lokaciji. Svaka usluga koja prilikom rada koristi sustav za pozicioniranje naziva se lokacijski bazirana usluga (LBS, Location Based Service).
