Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
Taxi service combines public city transport and personal transport but at the same time it is their competitor. Regulation of taxi service limits its fares, supply and competition. Deregulation of taxi service allows competition which increases supply, lowers fares, opens new jobs for taxi drivers and dispatchers and opens the way for new technologies to increase efficiency. New technologies include usage of economical hybrid cars, better transport planning, development and increased usage of smartphone applications which directly connect passengers with drivers and allow cab sharing with strangers. Taxi service in Zagreb was regulated until 2010 when a partial deregulation was conducted. This paper researches its positive and negative consequences.
