Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
Businesses try to anticipate the level of demand for their products and then ensure they have enough inventory to meet that demand. It's common practice to maintain a certain amount of extra inventory to satisfy unexpected spikes in demand. Most commonly, this is the expected increase in prices due to some shortages or due to some seasonal changes. These extra inventories are referred to as speculative inventory. The desire is to purchase larger quantities than usual to make a profit when the prices increase. Costs incurred by buying speculative inventory "return" during a certain period when a change in the market occures, reffering to the increase in prices. Hereby, it is expected that the profit will be higher, than the increased costs of keeping excessive inventories.
