Abstract
Svakim danom raste broj korisnika mobilnih mreža kao i potreba za većim brzinama prijenosa podataka. Današnja 3G tehnologija brzog paketskog pristupa (engl. High Speed Packet Access – HSPA) nametnula se kao nositelj naglog širenja širokopojasnog mobilnog pristupa Internetu. Unatoč konstantnom unaprjeđenju ove tehnologije, zbog kapacitivnih ograničenja i limitiranih mogućnosti postizanja viših performansi, razvija se današnja mreža četvrte generacije (4G) poznatija pod nazivom dugoročna evolucija - LTE (engl. Long Term Evolution). Nakon nje slijedi uvođenje mreže pete generacije (5G) nakon 2020. godine. 5G mreža neće biti samo evolucija širokopojasne mreže, već će korisniku pružiti potpuno nove mogućnosti s ciljem povećanja brzine prijenosa podataka, smanjenju vremena kašnjenja (latencije), računarstva u oblaku, smanjenja potrošnje energije, Interneta svega i drugih mogućnosti. Stoga, glavni cilj ovoga rada je prikazati razvoj, osnovne karakteristike i mogućnosti 5G mreže kao iduće značajne faze u pokretnim telekomunikacijama.

The number of mobile subscribers and need for higher data speeds is growing every day. Today's 3G technology of fast packet access (High Speed Packet Access – HSPA) established itself as the basis of rapid expansion of broadband mobile Internet access. Despite the constant improvement of this technology, its capacitive constraints and limited opportunities achieving higher performance are the main reasons for developing today’s fourth-generation (4G) network also known as the Long-Term Evolution (LTE). 4G is being followed by the fifth generation network (5G) which will be launched after 2020. 5G network will not only be an evolution of broadband network, it will also provide to users wide array of new opportunities such as increase of data speeds, reduction of latency and energy consumption, cloud computing services and Internet of Everything (IoE) concept. Therefore, the main focus of this paper is to show development, basic features and opportunities of 5G network as the next major step in mobile telecommunications.
