Abstract
Tema ovog diplomskog rada vezana je izvorno uz kontejnerski promet, te uz željeznicu, jer predviđa se da bi se željeznicom prevozio pretežni dio kontejnera i to intermodalnim vlakovima. Područje izučavanja alocirano je na dio mreže i to na luku Rijeka i koridore koji luku povezuju s unutrašnjosti. Bitan povoljni utjecaj na analizu imali su zemljopisni položaj luke Rijeka, karakteristike lučkih akvatorija, činjenica da je luka Rijeka uključena u mrežu glavnih luka EU TEN-T mreže, te da je prometni koridor koji povezuje Rijeku sa zaleđem postao dio EU TEN-T mediteranskog koridora, odnosno dio 6. Mediteranskog koridora namijenjenog pretežno za teretni promet (RFCs koridori). Te činjenice govore da luka Rijeka postaje značajna europska luka. Na području Rijeke u budućnosti se predviđa izgradnja novih vezova za prijam kontejnerskih brodova te novih terminala za pretovar kontejnera na vlakove i cestovna vozila. Terminali će omogućiti prijam cijele kompozicije vlaka, te simultani utovar i istovar kontejnera. Takva nova situacija utjecati će na znatno povećanje postotaka kontejnera koji će se prevoziti željeznicom. Modelom je utvrđeno da će se broj intermodalnih vlakova povećati 6 - 8 puta u odnosu na postojeće stanje. Prometna infrastruktura trebati će se prilagoditi budućim potrebama, što će zahtijevati znatna novčana ulaganja. Da bi se omogućio znatno povećan promet intermodalnih vlakova potrebno je, osim željezničke infrastrukture, dopuniti i mrežu kontejnerskih terminala i intermodalnih logističkih centara u unutrašnjosti. Željeznički promet odvijati će se u uvjetima liberaliziranog željezničkog tržišta. To znači da će prugama u Hrvatskoj moći prometovati, osim domaćeg upravitelja i drugi upravitelji u teretnom prometu. Veći broj upravitelja na prugama omogućit će povećanje razine prijevozne usluge na željeznici i bržu prilagodbu kapaciteta prijevoznika budućim potrebama.

Parallel abstract (English)
The subject of this graduation thesis is originally related with container traffic, because it predicts that the rail would carrying the major part of the container on intermodal trains. The topic of study was allocated to the part of the network implying the port of Rijeka and the corridors that connect the port with the hinterland. An important favorable effect on the analysis had the geographical position of the Port of Rijeka, the characteristics of the port waters, the fact that the port of Rijeka was included in the network of the main ports of the EU TEN-T network, and that the transport corridor that connects Rijeka with the hinterland has become part of the EU TEN-T Mediterranean Corridor and Part 6 of the Mediterranean corridor intended mainly for freight traffic (RFCs corridors), as well. These facts show that the port of Rijeka becomes important European port. In the area of the town Rijeka the building of new container ships berths, and the new terminal for transshipment of containers on trains and road vehicles was included. The terminals will allow the reception of the entire trainset, and the simultaneous loading and unloading of containers. This new situation will affect a significant increase in percentage of containers to be transported by rail. The model showed that the number of intermodal trains would increase 6-8 times compared to the current situation. Transport infrastructure will need to adapt to future needs, which will require substantial financial investment. To allow for significantly increase of intermodal trains traffic is necessary, except for the railway infrastructure, widening of container terminals network and intermodal logistics centers in the interior region. Rail transport will take place in the conditions of a liberalized railway market. This means that on the railway lines in Croatia will be able to operate, along toward domestic operators, and other freight transport operators. A larger number of operators on the railway lines will increase the level of transport services on the railways and speed up the capacity adjustment of the carrier to future needs.
