Abstract
Stalan trend povećanja potražnje za zračnim prostorom postavlja veliko pitanje održanja normalnog protoka zračnog prometa uz održanje opterećenja kontrolora u prihvatljivim razinama i definiranim kapacitetima. Prilazni kontrolor zračnog prometa kao pojedinac može imati velik utjecaj na protok zračnog prometa. U poslu mu pomažu unaprijed definirane procedure, ali one nisu uvijek najbolji izbor. Stoga, dobra odluka i pravovremeno korištenje svih mogućnosti, vješto rješavanje određenih prometnih situacija omogućuju minimalna čekanja zrakoplova. Dobro uočavanje i reakcija na konfliktne situacije uvelike doprinose povećanju protoka. Pravilna i dobro provedena koordinacija sa susjednim sektorima i jedinicama omogućuje stabilnu razinu sigurnosti uz povećanje zračnog prometa, a smanjenje nepotrebnog korištenja frekvencije otvara prostor i vrijeme za posvetu drugim zrakoplovima i situacijama. Novi sustavi u razvoju trebali bi omogućiti bolje donošenje odluka uz smanjenje radnog opterećenja kontrolora i povećanja protoka i iskoristivosti zračnog prostora.

The continuous increase of air traffic brings up the question about remaining normal traffic flows while maintaining the same controller's workload and defined airspace capacity. Approach controller, individually, may have a big impact on air traffic flows. The predetermined procedures might help them in their job athought they are not always the best choice. Correct and timely use of procedures, skillful solwing of certain traffic scenarios lead to reduce in aircraft's waiting time while airborne. Good reaction time and recognision of conflicting traffic results in increase of traffic flows. Well handled coordination with neighbouring sectors and units helps in maintaining the stabile safety levels while air traffic increases and the unecessary use of phraseology enables controller to focus more on other situations and aircraft. New developing systems are the key in better decision making process while reducing the controller's workload and increasing the air traffic flows and utilization.
